I was scouting the lookout on Mulholland Drive — a stretch of road I'd spent years on, riding motorcycles, knowing the views. I showed up early to see what the light would do at sunrise, planning for a shoot that never quite got the morning it deserved. This one did. The haze had settled into the canyons overnight and the sun came up behind it, turning every ridge a different shade of the same color. I stood there longer than I needed to.
